An analysis to achieve viable development perspectives for the city

This thesis is an exploratory study of the city Moengo and its surroundings. It aims to verify what the conditions are to make Moengo, which is a brownfield, back into the lively city it was in the heyday of bauxite mining in Suriname. In this thesis we want to check whether there is support for it. Therefore the present situation, the dynamics and potentials of the city are mapped. The shortage of employment, the need of a residence and various facilities are common problems in the area. There are several potentials to create new jobs and there are several parties that want to invest in the region. These matters are translated into four development perspectives that are summarised in a spatial structure plan. This is translated into sub-projects for the centre, the residential zone, industrial zone and recreation zone.
